Single Visit Crown

Same Day Crowns!

Mint utilizes CEREC® 3-D technology to provide metal-free, custom ceramic crowns, veneers and other dental restorations in just one visit!

A dental crown renews the shape, comfort, and function of a tooth damaged by deep decay, severe wear, or a fracture. In many dental offices, crowns require multiple of appointments over the period of several weeks. Older methods require that an impression is taken and sent to a lab where your crown is fabricated. In most cases, the impression materials used are messy and uncomfortable for the patient, and the measurements gleaned from this process aren’t always very precise or accurate. Often an ill-fitting, temporary crown is placed while the patient waits for the permanent restoration to be made. At Mint Dental Works we have invested in state of the art CEREC technology, which provides our patients with the convenience of beautiful, durable custom restorations in one visit!

What is CEREC?

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic) is a sophisticated system of designing and making high quality, metal-free dental restorations in one patient visit. Developed by Sirona, CEREC utilizes 3-D photography and CAD/CAM technology to assist in designing a virtual restoration (onlay, inlay, crown, or bridge) without taking impressions. When combined with our in house milling unit, the system is able to build the actual restoration while you are still in the chair.

CEREC Advantages :

  • no temporary restorations
  • high-quality ceramic products
  • minimal invasiveness
  • fewer injections and improved comfort
  • fewer dental visits
  • cost effectiveness
  • more natural tooth is saved
  • long lasting restorations
  • biocompatible solutions

The Process

Our SE Portland Dentist will administer an anesthetic and prepare your tooth for the restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth tissue. This preparation is similar to many other restorative techniques.

Next we take an optical impression of the prepared tooth. Instead of filling a tray with impression “goop” that requires you to hold it in your mouth until it hardens, we coat your tooth with a non-toxic, tasteless powder. We then use a camera to take a digital picture of your tooth. The full optical impression process only takes a minute or two.

Next, the CEREC machine helps us create the restoration for your tooth. The CEREC 3-D software takes the digital picture and converts it into a 3-D virtual model on the computer screen. Our team uses this image to design the inserting block into milling chamber restoration using the CEREC 3-D computer program. Within a few minutes, the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office. A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 10 – 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. Finally, the dentist tries the restoration in your mouth to ensure proper fit and bite. The restoration is then polished and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no “temporary” or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!
