Junior Mint – Pediatric Dental

Contact Us for a Children’s Dentist Appointment

High-quality, consistent oral care is an integral part of children growing into healthy adults. With this in mind, our team helps lay the foundation for a lifetime of good habits.

We emphasize preventative and diagnostic services in an upbeat, nurturing atmosphere that helps our Junior Mint patients build positive associations with dental care.

When Should Kids Have Their First Dental Appointment?

Starting healthy habits early in life can make a big difference in preventing problems down the road. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child’s first visit should be scheduled at 12 months of age and we concur.

The First Visit to the Children’s Dentist in SE Portland Should Be Fun!

Kids can sense anxiety, so it’s important that parents are enthusiastic and stress free! Be thoughtful about not creating any fear around their experience by keeping conversations about their visit simple and avoiding words such as shot, hurt, drill or needle. Let your child know they will get to take a ride in a Mint Dental Work’s chair and are welcome to bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal to ride with them!

The doctor will perform an exam of their mouth and teeth to make sure their smile stays beautiful. Depending on the age of the child, this appointment may also include:

  • digital X-rays if needed
  • a professional oral cleaning
  • education about nutrition, proper brushing and flossing techniques
  • treatment recommendations, if needed, will be reviewed in detail

The goal of our SE Portland dentist office is to keep your child smiling so we offer:

  • Children’s books
  • Coloring sheets
  • Kids’ programming and movies during treatment
  • Special goodies from our prize drawer when the appointment is over

FAQs for a Children’s Dentist in SE Portland

How Often Should My Child See the Dentist?

Just like adults, it’s generally recommended that children visit their dentist for a check up every six months to help prevent cavities and other oral health issues. Check with your dentist to be sure this schedule is right for your child’s individual needs.

Does my Child Need Sealants?

Sealants can be beneficial for anyone who may have uneven areas or groove in their teeth that are difficult to clean or that you can’t reach easily with the bristles of a toothbrush. Check with your dentist at your child’s next dental appointment to get their expert opinion.

Are Dental X-Rays Safe for my Child?

Mint Dental Works has incorporated newer digital X-ray technology into our practice that reduces our patient’s exposure to radiation up to 85% less than film-based radiography. That’s less than the exposure you receive from spending a few hours in the sunshine!
